Who can legally harvest cockles in the Dee Estuary

Commercial harvesters

Commercial harvesters must have a licence to gather cockles.

Members of the public

Members of the public can take up to 5kg of cockles a day for personal consumption only from open cockle beds.

Cockle beds shall be opened and closed individually depending upon levels of harvesting and survey results at the discretion of Natural Resources Wales, in order to safeguard a sustainable population level.
