Heavy rain predicted to cause flooding throughout Wales

Natural Resources Wales (NRW) is advising people to be vigilant this weekend as heavy rain is predicted to cause flooding across Wales, with South Wales set to experience the worst effects.

An amber weather warning for rain has been issued by the Met Office for South Wales and in lower parts of Mid Wales where the rain will be heaviest over the coming days. The upper mid and northern parts of Wales will also see significant rainfall. 

Emergency response workers from NRW will be at key sites, checking defences are in good working order and making sure any drainage grids and screens are clear to reduce the risk to people and their homes.

Gary White, Lead Specialist Advisor (Incident Management) for NRW, said:

“The predicted weather is likely to cause flooding up and down the country over the weekend so we’re advising everyone to keep up to date with flood warnings issued in their areas.

“We are working alongside our partners from the emergency services and local authorities to minimise the risk to communities.

“We want people to be aware that flood water can be extremely dangerous, and people should not attempt to walk or drive through it unless instructed by the emergency services.

The heavy rain is predicted to continue over the next 36-48 hours with the weather expected to ease off between Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
