Rocky Coastlines

Much of this coastline is protected as Special Areas of Conservation and Special Protection Areas under then Natura 2000 network of sites of international importance for wildlife.

Sites such as Skomer and Cemlyn bay are important habitats for seabirds such as the Puffin and the Sandwich tern, and the vegetated coastal cliffs are a dazzling spectacle of colour in the spring and early summer.

The Welsh coast also attracts crowds of visitors every year, bringing £32 million into the Welsh economy annually. It is therefore essential to protect our coastline and the LIFE Natura 2000 programme has produced costed action plans for every Coastal Natura 2000 site in Wales, planning for the future and helping to obtain vital funds.
